Do you need to market your business on Facebook? It seems like everywhere you look there are people telling you that Facebook is where you need to be online. They have all these great reasons that you should be marketing your business on Facebook; it’s viral, it’s the best way to advertise to a certain demographic, it’s the number one website in the world. While all those things are true, that doesn’t mean that Facebook is the magic bullet for every business.
Facebook is great for local businesses trying to expand their customer base. Through the use of things like Facebook apps you can start a small viral campaign for a business in your town fairly easily. Basically it goes like this. First of all you start with a great offer, “free appetizer at Joe’s Bar and Grill”. You place that offer into a Facebook app so that when people click through to get the coupon they are allowed (and encouraged) to tell their friends about it. Once you have the app set up you advertise it in your local area and within a short period of time you will have an app that has spread virally throughout your area.
Facebook is great for people selling information products online. If you have an information product Facebook is a great way to build a list and market to people who are interested in what you have to sell. Due to the fact that Facebook can target so specifically who you are advertising to you can focus on just the people who have an interest in your area of expertise. You could use this targeted advertising to build a successful fan page where you could market your things to your potential customers over and over.
FB is great for building relationships with people that you would otherwise not have access to. Are you considering a joint venture product? FB can sometimes be a great way to connect with people in your market who have complementary skills that would make great JV partners. One caveat would be to refrain from spamming these people or bugging them about your idea. If they are successful in their market they likely get a lot of offers. You can also do surveys of your customers on FB, what are they saying about your products, what could you do to improve the product, etc.?
Facebook marketing is not for everyone. If you are trying to build a successful internet marketing business don’t forget that email marketing, article marketing, blogging, PPC, and numerous other ways of getting your message out may be more effective for your particular business. In a recent conversation with Nicole Dean I told her that I was successful at using webinars in my business, I then asked for her advice. She plainly said to me “do more webinars!” I send to you the same advice, FB is not for everyone, but try it out and see if it works for your business.
