Appreciation Wins Over Self-Promotion

Too often I hear people say they don’t have time to send their clients thank you cards or even just “touching base” cards.  My response to that is if the client took the time to hand over their hard earned money to me for the services or products I provided then it is an obligation and responsibility to go beyond the “thank you handshake and walk away”.   This is especially true if one wants repeat business and referrals from them.

“I don’t have time” sends a message that the client is insignificant.  Often time people talk about being grateful for what they have in their lives which is a wonderful thing.  I applaud that.   So why not extend that sentiment out to our clients.  What If each day we got up and purposefully thought of a client and let them know how much we appreciate them and that we simply just wanted them to know we were thinking of them?   Can you imagine the impact that would have on your life?  Can you imagine the impact it would have on your clients’ lives? I can assure you it would have a powerful impact on your business because it has on mine.

Brian Tracy wrote “The best salespeople and businesspeople in America today are those who look upon their customers and prospective customers as friends and business partners.”  The always look for ways to help their partners improve their lives in ways that are not directly related to the products or services they sell.  They sow seeds, and they reap a harvest.

Brian also says one of the best ways to use this principle in your interactions is to continually look for ways to say and do positive things for people.  Look for ways to do kind acts and favors for your friends and prospects.  Send thank you notes and birthday cards. Send clippings from newspapers about subjects that you feel maybe of interest to them.

Here is a personal story of my own.  A prospective client of mine had a grand opening of a new store and it was highlighted in the local paper.  I clipped it out scanned it into my computer and sent it to her in a greeting card congratulating her and wishing her the best success.  To this day it hangs on their wall next to their framed first dollar made in that store.  That is so gratifying.

If you take some of the attention off of yourself and put it onto the clients you already have your business will skyrocket beyond your wildest imagination and you won’t have to be out there trying to drum up new business as much as you think and do.

Take the 31 day challenge and find out for yourself, send a greeting card that in no way talks about business and only of appreciation.  At the very least you will feel good for having done so.

The program I use and have used for the past 4 years is Send Out Cards.  I love the convenience, ease and simplicity of the program so much.   To find out more information you can go to http://sendoutcards.com/becauseumatter.  Whether or not you use Send Out Cards, do yourself and your clients a good deed and send them a note.

Have a great week!
